The Government, Suffolk County Council and Babergh & Mid Suffolk District Council have all declared a Climate Emergency.  At its meeting in May 23 Redgrave Parish Council followed suit and declared a Climate Emergency and committed itself to work through the Green Redgrave Group and in partnership with the Suffolk Green Cluster to put in place measures to help mitigate this emergency.

Formed in May 2023, the Suffolk Green Cluster Group (SGC) now comprises nine villages and 5 separate organizations interested in promoting net-zero carbon emissions; the villages include Redgrave, Hopton, Ixworth, Risby, Blo Norton, Hinderclay and Botesdale. Quarterly meetings are held with the aim of helping to achieve the Government’s net zero targets. Hopton has received lottery funding for a Climate Action Plan creation that may potentially be shared nationally.

The SGC has defined six main areas on which to concentrate: these are Biodiversity, Green Energy, Retrofitting, Green Transport, Green Food Production and Green Housing/Planning. Further details on the SGC and its activities are shown in the briefing given to the Parish Council at its November meeting.

Proposed actions by the SGC which affect Redgrave will be put to the Parish Council for endorsement.
